Silo Cost Guide

No price is published on this site, because no price figure appears in the product documentation used for these pages. This guide therefore explains the factors that affect the cost of a steel silo project, so that a buyer can understand why two quotations for the same nominal capacity can differ, and what information a supplier needs in order to quote accurately. The actual price for any project is confirmed per project through the inquiry form.

Capacity and size are the most obvious cost factors, but they are not the only ones. Diameter, height, bottom configuration and roof arrangement all affect the steel quantity, the fittings and the foundation. A hopper bottom, a flat bottom and an elevated arrangement have different support and discharge requirements, and those differences flow through to the foundation and handling costs as well as to the silo itself.

Material and protection are a second group of factors. The steel grade, the coating or lining, the galvanizing specification and the sealing arrangement all depend on the stored material and the environment. A silo for a corrosive or abrasive material, or for a site with a harsh climate, will carry different protection requirements from a silo for dry grain in a mild climate, and those requirements affect cost.

Fittings and systems are a third group. Level sensors, temperature measurement, ventilation, dust collectors, discharge aids such as arch-breaking or aeration systems, screw conveyors and pneumatic conveying lines are all project-specific. A proposal that includes a full set of monitoring and handling systems will differ from a proposal for a bare silo body, and a buyer comparing quotations should check which fittings are included in each proposal before comparing the totals.

Installation, transport and site works are a fourth group. Whether a silo is formed on site, assembled from boxed panels or shipped in sections affects transport and installation cost, and the foundation, ground works and connection to existing handling equipment are site-specific costs. Delivery scope, including whether installation, commissioning and training are included, should be stated in the quotation so that proposals can be compared on the same basis.

To obtain a comparable quotation, a buyer should send the material, the required capacity, the site footprint and height limit, the discharge method, the fittings required and the delivery scope expected. That information allows a supplier to quote a workable configuration rather than a generic figure, and it avoids a low quotation that omits fittings or site works that the project will later need.
